New Zealand education rank eighth in the world
date : December 20, 2012 - 02:29pmNew Zealand's education system has ranked 8th in a new global league table published by education firm Pearson. Two places higher than the 2009 ranking
50 countries in the developed world were assessed on their psychological skills, education achievements and literacy, maths and science competency.
Successful countries who placed in the top 10 were said to have a *culture* of education. promoting a culture that is supportive of education is more important than the amount of money spent.
A notable trend was top countries put teachers a high status in soceity. Statistcs show that having a high quality teacher meant a greater income, lower chances of teenage pregnacy and better at financial saving later on in life.
Patrick Waish President of the Secondary School Association said it was pleasing hear that new Zeland was still in the top 10 ranking and that the education system had improved over the past 3 years.
Coming in at first place was Finland followed by south Korea and Hong Kong. Australia takes 13th place.
